Porquerolles: a Mediterranean island to discover
Porquerolles is one of the great excursions I recommend to visitors who wish to discover another side of the Mediterranean.
The island offers a rare mix of beaches, forest, trails, heritage and crystal-clear waters.
It extends over approximately 1,250 hectares and has more 51 kilometers of marked trails.
The beaches of Porquerolles
Two beaches particularly deserve your attention.
Courtade Beach.
With its fine sand and natural surroundings, La Courtade is one of the iconic beaches of the island.
Notre-Dame Beach.
It also offers a remarkable setting for a day of swimming.
The waters allow for various water sports activities:
- diving,
- snorkeling,
- paddle
- kayak.
Porquerolles on foot
This is probably the best way to discover the island.
THE 51 km of marked trails allow you to cross Mediterranean landscapes and reach the main sites of the island.
In spring, temperatures are particularly pleasant for walking, with days reaching up to 25°C according to your guide.
The Porquerolles lighthouse
The lighthouse is one of the iconic landmarks of the island.
The walk allows you to discover another side of Porquerolles, wilder and further away from the beaches.
Fort Sainte-Agathe
THE Fort Sainte-Agathe is also one of the must-see sites to discover during a walk.
It testifies to the strategic importance of the island throughout its history.
The Mill of Happiness
Another interesting feature of the island: the Mill of Happiness.
It makes a pleasant stop during a hike.
The Carmignac villa
Porquerolles also possesses an astonishing artistic dimension.
There Villa Carmignac is dedicated to contemporary art.
It is located in the heart of a 15-hectare natural estate, with a sculpture garden.
This is a particularly interesting visit for those who wish to combine nature and culture.
Why I particularly recommend spring
This period allows you to take advantage of:
- pleasant temperatures,
- trails without having to endure the intense heat,
- beaches,
- water sports,
- the relative calm of the island.
Villa Carmignac is open from April to the end of October, while its garden is accessible all year round according to your source.
A day in Porquerolles
I advise against trying to do everything.
Option 1: Beach and relaxation
Crossing → Short break → swimming → walk → return.
Option 2: Discovering the island
Crossing → village → Moulin du Bonheur → lighthouse → beach → return.
Option 3: Nature and culture
Crossing → hike → Carmignac villa → beach.
The choice will naturally depend on the season and your preferences.
